In 2018, PRS (Paul Reed Smith Guitars), after almost two years of work with the musician John Mayer, issued the John Mayer signature guitar “Silver Sky”. John Mayer was one of the thousands ambassador of the make Fender for years, mainly using the legendary Stratocaster. The one Mayer used was +/-comparable to the SRV model (Stevie Ray Vaughan) but customised for him by Fender engineers. The problem with big factories like Fender is that, and this is not a critic but the reality of the market, is that they makes choices that broke the link they may have with legendary musicians that used and promoted their goods since years. This is exactly what happened wit Mayer some years ago. After years of close collaboration with Fender and at least two signature’s Stratocaster guitars with them, Mayer impression about Fender is that they didn’t anymore put the needed attention to his willingness to adapt the instrument to his needs.
I have this instrument now since 1 week and discover it a bit more every time I use it. One thing is sure, this is definitively the best guitar I ever played with. All is perfect!
